Biography
Milica Mihajlović (née Mišković) was born in 1936 in Miliva, in the municipality of Despotovac. After finishing grammar school in Ćuprija, in 1954 she enrolled at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Belgrade to study geography. She graduated on schedule in 1958, as the first woman from the Resava region with a university degree.
She taught at the eight-year primary schools in Stenjevac and Plažane, and then at the Secondary School of Economics in Smederevo, where she was also deputy principal. Throughout her teaching career she was a respected and much-loved geography teacher with a gift for passing knowledge on to her pupils.
She is survived by her daughter Olivera and her son Zoran, and by her grandchildren Ivona and Milan. They established this foundation which, as a non-profit charitable organisation, seeks to promote the further development of geography by keeping the memory of Professor Milica alive.
